PMC MONITORS •THE REFERENCE FOR THE BBC’S NEW MUSIC HUB STUDIOS

BBC at Radio 2

After nearly two decades at Wogan House, BBC Radio 2 has returned to its roots at BBC Broadcasting House in London. The move includes the opening of four cutting-edge studios, which are now part of Broadcasting House’s Popular Music Hub. This expansion increases the Hub’s total to 10 studios, catering to the UK’s most popular radio stations: Radio 2, Radio 1, and 6 Music.

Designed by specialist integrator IPE, the studios feature an advanced Audio over IP setup with DHD.audio consoles and PMC6 active monitors complemented by PMC8 Sub speakers. The facilities also include Radio Visualisation capabilities, Live Music performance areas, DJ setups with Pioneer and Technics equipment, and an IHSE KVM system for seamless PC and server access.

Senior Project Engineer Ben Relf highlighted IPE’s extensive history with the BBC, noting their previous installations at Yalding House in 2005 and the original Popular Music Hub in 2012. Despite challenging supply conditions, the project was completed successfully, with positive feedback from users.

PMC’s relationship with the BBC spans 30 years, beginning with the creation of their BB series of loudspeakers for Maida Vale in the early 1990s. Co-founder Peter Thomas expressed pride in the continued use of PMC’s renowned products in the new studios, which are favored by top artists and studios worldwide.
